• Joined the Scottish Church College as a student in the I.Sc. class in 1934. • Graduated with Honours in Chemistry in 1938. • Was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry in 1943. • Became Head of the Department in 1963. • Served as Vice-Principal during 1977-78. • Was appointed Acting Principal in 1981. Later became Principal. • Retired as Principal on April 30, 1983. On the day of his demise the teachers of the department formed ‘Aparesh Bhattacharya Memorial Committee’.
Among the activities of the Committee are donation of books and almira to the College Library and holding of annual popular lectures on chemistry to be delivered on March 18 every year by eminent scholars in chemistry.
Former students of the department, many of whom are his direct students, are requested to patronize the said ‘Aparesh Bhattacharya Memorial Committee’.
Annual Lecture
After his demise in the 18 March 1995, in cherished memory of our former Principal and beloved teacher who strongly bonded us together as the head of the family of the members of the department of Chemistry Aparesh Bhattacharya Memorial Lecture is organised by the department where speakers eminent in their fields are invited to deliver the lecture every year. So far nine tributes were laid down.
